Environmental Sustainability

The Brundtland Report, published in 1987 by the World Council on Economic Development defines the essence of sustainability as follows, “In essence, sustainable development is a process of change in which the exploitation of resources, the direction of investments, the orientation of technological development; and institutional change are all in harmony and enhance both current and future potential to meet human needs and aspirations.” (I. The Concept of Sustainable Development, “Our Common Future”, M. Brundtland).  More simply, the Bruntland Report notes sustainability is “meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

ALG partners with organizations like yours who are committed to implementing a corporate social responsibility and sustainability vision for both current and future generations. Our services can help you align economic growth and business opportunities with positive climate action initiatives. We understand that every organization has a unique path to sustainability, accordingly, we recommend implementing a focused and sequential approach to achieve success.

  • Determine your corporation’s unique climate action visions to achieve sustainability (e.g., corporate wide net-zero carbon emissions by 2050)

  • Determine your current carbon emission footprint – a comprehensive review of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

  • Perform gap assessments - this is a crucial step to determine where you are in relation to achieving your sustainability goals and evaluate strategies for achieving these goals.

  • Utilize the gap assessments and define and evaluate the following benchmarks:

    • Definition of corporate strategy;

    • Review of available project opportunities with existing and new counterparties.

  • Implement project scenarios to achieve your climate action visions, which could include the following strategies:

    • Corporate wide decarbonization solutions;

    • Increased utilization of renewable fuel within operations;

    • Participation in credit generation projects within state and voluntary, programs;

    • Evaluate opportunities to participate in carbon sequestration and utilization projects;

    • Evaluate state regulated and voluntary carbon market pricing strategies;

    • Implement ESG framework development and disclosure reporting.
