Renewable Fuels Reporting and Verification

The Role of Renewable Fuels in the Transportation Sector

A separate, but related element of the climate change/Greenhouse Gas reduction programs for California and Oregon include a requirement for fuel suppliers to reduce the carbon intensity of the fuels produced and supplied within the state at prescribed rates over time.  In general, fuel suppliers are required to report and have verified the type and quantity of fuels produced, imported, or exported within each state.

ALG’s extensive experience in air quality permitting and compliance in California, Washington, and Oregon, as well as in GHG reporting and verification, uniquely qualifies us to provide transportation fuel reporting or verification services to our clients.

LCFS Credit Options

Reporting

Each state has multiple types of reporting requirements applicable to transportation fuels:

  • Fuel Pathway Reports – Annual reports from producers of alternative, low carbon fuels;

  • Fuel Transaction Reports – Quarterly reports of fuel sales into/out of the state;

  • Crude Oil Volume Reports – Quarterly and Annual reports of the volume of crude oil processed into Diesel and CARBOB (California Only)

Verification

ALG has performed third-party CARB LCFS and ODEQ CFP verifications in all sectors which may or may not generate carbon credits:

  • Quarterly Fuel Transaction Reports;

  • Annual Fuel Pathway Reports;

Industry Experience

In addition to renewable and conventional fuel transaction verifications, ALG also has direct experience in the following transportation fuel production processes:

  • Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) from anerobic digestion of diary manure and municipal solid waste

  • RNG from landfill gas

  • RNG liquefaction

  • Electricity from

  • Biodiesel from soy oil

  • Renewable diesel from UCO, canola oil, soy oils and animal fats

  • Sustainable aviation fuel from UCO

  • Ethanol from corn starch and fiber

  • Electricity generation from hydrogen

  • Hydrogen from biomass and RNG

  • Petroleum refining and associated sustainability project improvement including co-processing renewables, solar generation and hydrogen production
