Voluntary Carbon Credits
Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
In order to advance GHG reduction goals, various innovative approaches are being taken to reduce the carbon footprint. Such measures include the production of cleaner/renewable transportation fuels, extraction of dairy and landfill methane toward the production of renewable natural gas, or special projects designed to produce clean energy used in fuel production. The quantity of fuel produced using these innovative methods can be reported in voluntary programs when specific requirements are met. Similar to the regulatory programs, voluntary programs often require 3rd party verification from verifiers accredited in a clean fuels or low carbon credit programs (such as CARB LCFS and OEQ CFP).

Credit Generation
Carbon credits may result from the reduction of CO2 emissions through tangible measures taken by industry to compensate for GHG production (offsets), or direct measures adopted to reduce GHG emissions (reduction)
Opportunities for credit generation can result in tradable certificates that can be sold through voluntary or regulated registries. ALG’s team of Lead Verifiers is experienced in preparing or verifying all sectors and project types applicable to carbon credit generation:
-
Low Complexity/Low-Energy-Use Refinery Credits
-
Project Reports including
-
Producing or Transporting Innovative Crude
-
Refinery Investment Credits
-
Renewable Hydrogen Projects
-
CO2 Direct Air Capture and Sequestration
-
Pyrolysis and Syngas
-
Evaluation of potential credit generation from biomass waste pyrolysis where the syn gas is captured and used in a greenhouse and the pyrolysis product - biochar - is used for agriculture and the environmental attributes are sold in the voluntary marketplace.
-
Bio-Oil use evaluation including potential renewable electricity, upgrade to natural gas, sold to other facilities, generate credit through the CARB LCFS program;
-
Credit stacking feasibility associated with pyrolysis of biosolids: Syngas conversion to low CI electricity and sold as RECS behind the meter and the environmental attributes of the biochar is traded in the voluntary markets.

Low Carbon Credits
